The Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) has announced today that Sheri Sesay-Tuffour, PhD, CAE, will become the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of The Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB), effective September 14, 2020.

Sesay-Tuffour succeeds former CEO Margaret “Peg” Harrison, MSN, CPNP-PC, CAE who retired in June 2020 after a planned leadership transition. Tuft President Jill Christie led the national search for the CEO of PNCB.

Sesay-Tuffour comes to PNCB with more than 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, leading nursing, medical, and scientific-based organizations. She recently served as the CEO of the American College of Nurse-Midwives; she previously was the Executive Director for the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners and Vice-President of Operations for the Heart Rhythm Society. In addition, she has held several roles in education, international relations, and credentialing.

A results-oriented leader, Sesay-Tuffour is known for her strategic foresight, operationalizing complex business portfolios, maximizing human and financial resources to strengthen services, and developing high-performing teams. She is a champion for diversity and a passionate supporter for accessible and equitable care to support the well-being of women, individuals, and families.

“The PNCB Board of Directors is excited that Sheri will guide our respected portfolio of certification exam and continuing education programs into the future,” said PNCB Chair Natalie Van Waning, BSN, MSN, ARNP, CPNP, who also chaired PNCB’s CEO Search Committee. “Sheri brings a wealth of executive experience to build upon PNCB’s past growth and chart the course for success in the years to come.”

“I’m thrilled about the opportunity to support a distinguished organization committed to lifelong learning and the promotion of high standards of care for children and adolescents,” said Sesay-Tuffour. “I look forward to leading PNCB into its next chapter of success.”

Sesay-Tuffour received her PhD from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in organizational leadership. She holds the Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation; is a lifetime inductee of Yale University’s Edward Bouchet Graduate Honor Society; and has membership affiliations with several professional societies. Beyond her professional work, Sheri remains highly engaged in volunteer service and community affairs. She is a newly elected at-large board member of the American Society of Association Executives, remains actively involved in her local alma mater chapter, and served as a voluntary grant reviewer and evaluator of IRS-registered programs for the government of the District of Columbia’s Mayor’s Office. Sesay-Tuffour and her family live in Maryland.

Based near Washington, D.C., the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board is the leading certification organization for pediatric nurses and nurse practitioners, currently certifying more than 50,000 nursing professionals. PNCB serves as the leading voice for credentialing in pediatric nursing and for pediatric health policy discussions throughout the country through its support of the Institute of Pediatric Nursing (IPN).
